Glastonbury Tor

Glastonbury Tor

I got lucky with this photo of the Glastonbury Tor. Pretty sweet.

The Tor is has both pagan and Christian associations. The tower is all that remains of St. Michael’s Church. At the time of the Dissolution of the Monasteries under Henry VIII, the tower was used for the execution of the last Abbot of Glastonbury, Blessed Richard Whiting, and his companions.

Glastonbury Abbey was the oldest Marian Shrine is England. Now there is only a small remnant of the once grand presence of Our Lady there. It is also the alleged location of Avalon and the final resting place of King Arthur and Queen Guinevere. The place is crawling with practitioners of the occult arts of every kind. Many places in England invoke sadness because of their once Catholic associations. Glastonbury also drums up fear.
