St. Philip Howard

This is some graffiti in a cell within the Tower of London. Throughout the Tower, where the Catholic martyrs were kept, the prisoners scratched their names, prayers and Catholic symbols into the stone walls. This particular specimen was written by St. Philip Howard and reads: “The more suffering for Christ in this world, the more glory with Christ in the next. Arundell, 22, June 1587.”
