First of all, the particular need for this kind of group seems evident, since relatively few Catholic organizations are directed toward the spiritual and apostolic formation of men. Furthermore, men reaching out to other men, is necessary because culture is so often inimical to an authentic paternity, and because masculinity is so often stereotyped as “macho.” Lastly, the importance of such a group can be seen in the need for real leadership in the lay apostolate, where sound intellectual and spiritual formation on the one hand, and the ability to communicate on a popular level on the other are requisite. Equally important in this regard is the cultivation of a courageous and humble prudence where the maxim of of St. Augustine is key: “In essentials unity. In nonessentials liberty. In all things charity.”
