I had NO idea about his puritanical upbringing during his teenage/young adult years! I was always confused about his alluding to a prudishness in Catholics because I didn't think anyone in their 30's, 40's or 50's had seen anything close to prudishness whatsoever. Therefore, understanding this detail helps me understand his approach and misconceptions. I'm glad he chose to remain Catholic after that experience and really do pray that he can take Dawn's (and others') suggestions. Truly, Catholics do need the Theology of the Body as JPII presented and it's helpful to have it delivered to the average layman in the forum that West delivers it. There's probably much good that West discusses and shares. He just needs to correct some dangerous details it seems.

I will lift him in prayer ... and you, too, Dawn! Good luck at Catholic University ... how exciting.

Thanks for cross-linking to this. I attended a presentation from Christopher West and followed the articles which went back and forth a few months ago critiquing and defending his work. In reading the criticisms, I could see the points several of them were making, but felt very frustrated in that it seemed the other perspectives on the topic were not accessible to the average Catholic or did not contain insight on the practical application of what they were saying. With a title such as "Towards a Climate of Chastity," I hope Ms. Eden's approach offers, as she suggests "positive correctives" and practical effects.
